Explanation of the configuration menu options
Narration Style:
Select the narration style: either farmer’s thoughts or a narrator in third-person.
Default: Farmer’s thoughts
Author’s Note
I plan to update this to add a Limited Narration option in the next major update. I love storytelling, and adding farmer’s thoughts or narration allows me to really flesh out the events, but some players do not want that extra content. Choosing Limited Narration will remove any extra messages that are not direct dialogue, shortening events and showing less text on the screen.
If you’re like me and want to get everything you can out of the story like a visual novel, Farmer’s Thoughts includes the full story as originally written.
Farmer neutral pronouns:
Select ‘Yes’ to use gender neutral pronouns for farmer. This will change a few events and dialogue lines where other characters talk about farmer, switching the pronouns to they/their rather than based on the farmer’s gender chosen on the creation screen. This also shows a “neutral” version of some lines that have variants for male or female farmer.
Default: No
Sebastian friendship dialogue
Uncheck the box to remove Seb’s dialogue in the mod. This is not recommended since Sam will still mention things that are related to Seb’s removed lines, but it allows other Sebastian dialogue mods to be played.
Default: checked
Vincent’s familiar name:
Enter what name Vincent should call you, examples: “Big Sis”, “Big Bro”, “Auntie”, “Uncle”, or simply your farmer’s name. You can fill in anything you want, but don’t use unusual characters since they might not work with Stardew’s font.
Default: Big Sis
Sam’s name for farmer:
Enter the endearment Sam should call you after dating, fun examples: “Maplesugar”, “Songbird”, “HoneyBunny”, “Sugarbear”, or simply your farmer’s name. You can fill in anything you want, but don’t use unusual characters since they might not work with Stardew’s font.
Default: Maplesugar
Farmer’s hair length:
Does your farmer have long or short hair? (Regardless of gender) Determines a silhouette sprite used in an event.
Default: Long
SC (Solarion Chronicles) character name:
Fill in a name for farmer’s Solarion Chronicles character. This can be anything you want, but don’t use unusual characters since they might not work with Stardew’s font.
Default: Arden
SC (Solarion Chronicles) character pronouns:
Select pronouns for farmer’s Solarion Chronicles character, the character comes up a few times in dialogue.
Default: neutral
Author’s Note
Setting up the Solarion Chronicles game was one of my favorite parts of this mod version! At some point, I’d like to make a full scenario mod for the game.
CUSTOM SPRITES
Sam’s custom event sprites:
Enables custom Sam sprites for certain events. Selecting ‘No’ removes custom sprites in some events and disables non-essential events that require custom sprites. See Nexus mod description for details. If you are using Seasonal Outfits or Nyapu mods, download the compatible patch mod. No changes are needed for Maggs Sam Portraits & Sprites mod or DSV.
Default: Yes
Baby sprite edit:
Enables a minor edit to the baby sprite, recoloring the blanket to a mint green and making the infant slightly smaller. Select ‘No’ if you have a baby sprite mod installed.
Default: Yes
EVENT OPTIONS
Story Event Pace:
Slow: the story unfolds over the two years, wait for Sam to confess to see all content. Fast: removes the event time spacing, farmer can confess at any time but events might be skipped.
Default: Slow: Time Based
Author’s Note
It’s very important to not confess or propose to Sam if you want all the content, once you switch to dating status, you might not be able to trigger previous events. Be patient! Sam will confess when he’s ready!
Moonlight Jellies edit:
Allows Sam to stand with farmer at the Moonlight Jellies festival pre-marriage. Toggle this to ‘no’ if you have another NPC mod that uses the same dock location. You can also try Festival Nudge, a new mod that keeps characters from occupying the same space during festivals.
Default: Yes
Morning Greeting:
Choose whether Sam chats with farmer in the mornings after dating (Spicy Expansion only) and marriage, enables a mini event conversation in the morning with randomized dialogue. This event is disabled for poly saves, it causes event conflicts in the farmhouse with other events in the same time slot which breaks the repeating code. Who has time to talk to one person every day when you have a house full of spouses like Pokemon anyway?
Default: Daily
Sleepover/Pillowtalk:
This is on the Spicy Expansion only. Choose whether Sam chats with farmer in the evenings after dating and marriage, enables a mini event conversation with randomized dialogue. This event is disabled for poly saves, it causes event conflicts in the farmhouse with other events in the same time slot which breaks the repeating code. Umm… Pillowtalk with one guy when you have an entire bed full of them waiting? Awkward!!
Default: Daily
Custom Morning event map:
Enables a custom map for the Good Morning event location, set to ‘no’ if you want to use the farmhouse kitchen and you don’t have a farmhouse mod.
Default: Standard farmhouse kitchen
Wedding Replay:
Allows the wedding to be replayed by entering debug ebi MaggSebastianWedding in the SMAPI console. This requires you to enter the information manually since the event is not standard and must be hidden so it can’t play by random chance.
Default: Yes
Farmer’s birthday month:
Select the season for your farmer’s birthday, this is used for custom events. Avoid festival days, and if you are using the Happy Birthday mod, select the same day.
Farmer’s birthday date:
Select the day for your farmer’s birthday, this is used for custom events. Avoid festival days, and if you are using the Happy Birthday mod, select the same day.
Author’s Note
Do I love making sprites? Yes. Do I wish I had stuck with the extremely limited vanilla poses? Sometimes.
Going forward, I’ll be using temporary actors for a lot of custom sprites to avoid all the headaches of sprite mod compatibility.
Note that this is only overworld sprites, portraits are not affected at all. I do have custom expressions in the Emo Sebastian Sprites mod that add a lot to the dialogue, but if you don’t want this mod, you can use any portrait mod and it will not change your experience.
Default: Yes
CUSTOM DECOR
Outside event decor:
Select ‘No’ to remove outside decor related to events. This includes some planter boxes and a couple minor other items, nothing major as of this version.
Default: Yes
Custom spouse room:
Makes edits to Seb’s spouse room, such as adding the frogs and slippers. Set to ‘no’ if you’re using a different spouse room mod and the edits conflict.
Default: Yes
Author’s Note
At some point I will fully update Sam’s spouse room, but until then, a few edits are made. I attempted to have him work at his computer during his normal routine, but it requires some additional coding I need to investigate.
